Power of Being Still

“Within you there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat any time.” HERMAN HESSE

Are you doing the same as me are you living life just running from work, home, church, gym, friends and always trying to focus on doing several tasks at the same time. When you are on your computer do you have many tabs open at one time? When you are working on a project you are easily distracted and move on to something else? Yay good to know I’m not alone. We live in such a crazy busy world where if we are not rushing from one place to another we have a lot of commotion going on around us or in our minds. We are constantly told that if you are not busy, you are not one of the elite. We always get told we need to do more and more so we can be better, smarter, good-looking, fitter, healthier but sometimes what we actually need to do is less.

My  Story

I grew up in a fast pace home, if we weren’t at rugby practice, we had singing, piano or some other church program we were a part of. My mum never let us just sit down and not be busy. We always needed to make productive use of our time. It even comes to when I am eating breakfast I would rather eat it on the go or read or do something then actually sit down and eat a meal because I feel like I am not being productive.

While being married to my husband my perspective has somewhat shifted I would say not completely 180degrees more like 90degree shift. His whole philosophy is really taking your time, being careful, focusing on a task until it’s done which was very difficult for me to grasp of at first. I kept complaining how he was wasting his time just sitting there, how he can be multi-tasking etc. As of lately trying to apply the idea of “being present” into my life. I realised that I was just rushing through everything, I wasn’t enjoying food, I wasn’t enjoying my surroundings I wasn’t taking the time to appreciate being in the here and now. And that’s what got me to realise that I wasn’t even aware that I wasn’t even just standing STILL. Everything was always go go go from the moment I woke up.

Becoming Conscious

We may need to say no to certain commitments, certain projects certain people in our lives that are sucking out our energy. This may be hard at first especially for me always trying to please people but it really does help to slow down your life and focus your time and energy on the things that really do matter. Or we may be completely fine but just need to take some out of the busy day to allow our conscious to be aware of the environment of how we are feeling of our breath of our thoughts and emotions. We really can achieve stillness anywhere we choose, we just need to be conscious about it and make space for it in our minds and body.

Practicing Stillness through Yoga

Lately I have been practicing the art of yoga which seems pretty easy for others but for me it has been one of the most difficult things especially just the listening to my breath. My mind cannot comprehend that it is okay to sit still and be still for more than a minute. The first couple of times I could only do the breathing thing for a minute and had to fast forward the videos so I could actually start doing some yoga moves. But as I have practiced I have managed to get comfortable with sitting still and listening to my breath. And it’s actually relaxing something I don’t let my mind experience very often. After practicing yoga I have also become so conscious of my breath throughout the day and didn’t realize how much I hold my breath.

I have listed some ways you can accomplish stillness throughout your day.

  • Schedule some time for stillness on your phone or first thing in the morning
  • Pick a favorite place you like to go to and just sit and enjoy
  • Put on a guided meditation if you don’t think you can do it on your own at first
  • Practice just breathing and listening to your breath. It’s true when you focus on something so intently your mind can’t wander as much.
  • Start small… whether you meditate, ponder, day dream allow yourself to explore just being present.

I know that as you take time to be still in your day, you will have a clearer space to work from. You will be enlightened with new ideas. You will be invigorated your batteries will be charged and just that much more ready for whatever challenges that come your way.

Best Wishes my lovelies

Wardrobe Makeover -Minimalism Journey {SIMPLIFY}

As you know for those who have been following my youtube channel I just did a post about values that I wish to live by this year. One of those is that of simplifying. To start off this whole simplify theme in my life I have decided that I want to start off with my wardrobe. As you can see by this picture it is a huge ugly mess of clothing everywhere. By minimizing my clothing, the hopes is I will also be better organized.

Everything thrown in a pile

After getting everything thrown in the pile, I organized the dresses, shirts, pants and skirts etc into their own individual piles. After getting them in the piles I just picked the items that made me happy and I knew for certain I was going to wear. If I wasn’t 100% sure I put it into a different pile. So I had piles for YES, Maybe and NO. I then went through the Maybe pile and kept what I wanted and discarded the rest. PRESTO!!!

At the beginning I was pretty gung ho and thought I could do a 10 item wardrobe but then realized it was still a little too soon for me to do 10 items so I have done about a 15 -17 item wardrobe. (depends on what you call outfits) I had also managed to get rid of about 7 pairs of shoes. Hopefully I get to that point where I can get it down to only 10 outfits.

Why Minimize your Wardrobe?

  • More time to do productive things
  • Organizing your wardrobe is now a breeze
  • Have more money in the bank
  • Less clutter in your wardrobe = Less mess (especially for me)
  • Packing for trips is easier
  • Sense of clarity and clearness in your bedroom!!!

Just going through my clothing and purging them was very therapeutic and liberating. I am now excited to open my wardrobe and not feel overwhelmed from the mess and disorder. I am also excited to apply this idea into the other areas of my life, kitchen, bathroom, linen, decor etc.

Advice for those wanting to start:

  • define your style (Vintage, Hipster, Boho, Retro etc) This was the hardest part for me.
  • read about other minimalists and how they do it (we all have our own ways)
  • decide how much you can manage and go for it!!!
  • read 12 steps to minimizing your wardrobe or lots of fun youtube videos on it

5 Personal Life Values for 2016

This year is going to be an amazing year!!!! You make it what you want it be right!!!? I am not fantastic with big new year’s resolutions so setting values is more my thing. I also prefer doing monthly goals as it is easier for me to stay accountable with shorter period of times.

So this year I have decided to set these values as a foundation for my Personal Development this year. These values will be a base for me to set my goals around.

  1. Nourish and Exercise my Mind – This can be done by reading uplifting and inspiring books. Reading personal development books. I also find that reading scriptures also enlighten my mind and enlarge my understanding.
  2. Act Consciously – Thinking before I do anything. Thinking before I talk. Thinking before I eat and asking myself do I really want it. Being conscious and being purposeful in all my actions.
  3. Simplify – “Less is more” Physically, spiritually, emotionally, mentally and socially clearing out the clutter in your life helps you focus on the real things that matter. e.g having so many outfits means a bigger amount of time to sort through clothing, laundry and space in your house
  4. Listen – actually talking to somebody and listening about what they are saying not just thinking about your response.
  5. Be Present – wherever you are taking in that present moment, not thinking about the past the future just being there and the now!

My mantra for 2016 is as follows:

Faith finds Solutions Doubt finds Problems

What are your values or goals for this year? How are you planning on accomplishing them? Let me know in the comments below! Best wishes for the upcoming new year may it be prosperous, productive and fulfilling!

Why you need a Mentor

I have had so many wonderful mentors in my life that have guided and directed me in different aspects of my life. But as I have left my childhood, I am now in search of mentors in my areas of interest and career.  If you talk to any successful person they are bound to have had someone guide them on their journey, or they were following in somebody else’s footsteps. The benefits of a mentor are countless, but today I would like to highlight a few reasons why you should have your own mentor, especially if you are looking towards achieving something that they have already accomplished.

1. Insight and Vision: Having a mentor will help you develop a clearer vision of where you want to go and how to get there. A mentor will also help you stretch your vision and give you new perspectives on things.

2. Experience: Because they have been on this journey already they can give you guidance and direction. They have a wealth of experience that can help you avoid falling into the holes that they fell in.

3. Contacts: Mentors generally know and have lots of points of contacts of people in the industry. They already have their go to people and are established. Therefore by just getting their points of contacts that can save you a lot of time, effort and resources.

4. Team: Being an entrepreneur can be a lonesome journey. Therefore a mentor is like a business partner that you need to help you bounce ideas off. This is extremely useful if you are head of your organization or CEO with no one else to talk to.

Mentors are there so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. They already have the roadmap to success so all you need to do is get your hands on the roadmap!!! There are also many programs out there willing to help you find mentors. Strongbrook Mentoring Community have an awesome network of mentors that can help you. You can also download their free app at It pretty much is the “netflix” for personal development. You can find content on wealth, health, business, personal growth, real estate and more. To download the app you need an invitation code which can only be found on their website.
There is also the opportunity to create a wealth roadmap using traditional assets, such as real estate, for every level of investor and income earner. This roadmap is a plan developed for each individual that you control, to reach your own personal wealth goals..

Have you had your own experience with mentors? Have you mentored others? What have you benefited from mentoring or being mentored? Comment below your thoughts and impressions.

Be amazing

Kindness is Key

This is a beautiful quote, I love that Kindness is referred to as Wisdom. Because wisdom is much deeper than just knowledge itself. Once we get past the knowing stage and actually pass through to actually attain understanding we will begin to see that no matter how much wisdom and knowledge you may have, being kind to yourself and others around you will trump it all. Wisdom gives you the understanding that Kindness will help you into heart of all those around you. Wisdom will allow you to see that kindness will break down negative and stubborn barriers. Kindness is wisdom in its purest form.

HumanKind – Be kind to other Humans!
