DIY ModPodge Recipe

I have now made two crafts with this  DIY mod podge recipe. And I don’t think I will ever be needing to buy any particular modge podge for this type of project. I used this recipe but adjusted it after reading the reviews. I used this for my Lampshade project and my Bowl Project. If you are doing something different I would test it in a smaller ratio just in case it doesn’t turn out quite right. lampshadeThe magic modpodge recipe

2 Cups of Flour

1 Cup of Sugar

Between 1-3 cups of Water but keep adding until it’s perfect for your project (not too thick or too watery)

Add Tbsp of Oil

Directions:

In a pot threw in the flour and sugar and turned the stove on to medium heat

I then added the water slowly  so it wouldn’t get super clumpy

I kept adding more and more water until I thought it was right thickness

Added the oil and mixed

All done!

Whale Songs in Tonga

Tonga, also known as the friendly island, a beautiful island with a plethora of untouched nature for us to experience. It’s still so raw and compared to the other islands less “touristy.” Tonga has always been my place of ancestry and identity. For me as a kid, when we went to Tonga we just did the normal things like go to the market, swim in the dirty water in the city, go to the haa’monga a maui (sunrise rocks) and play with the cuzzies. But going back next time, whenever that is… will be a completely different experience. I have so much on my bucket list that I want to do there, and swimming with the whales is definitely one of them.

In the post Whale Songs in Tonga, Millie Slater describes this wonderful experience of swimming with the wales. She goes on to describe this experience with her family as “one of the greatest experiences of our lives”. One can only imagine this experience of being able to swim with these magnificent intelligent animals that rule the oceans.  While their everyday life consists of crunching numbers at Slater Chartered Accountancy in New Zealand, being able to escape for a few days and take their office to the ocean made for a well-deserved holiday.

Her beautiful account of their sea adventure gives us a firsthand experience of becoming one with the ocean and its creatures. I love the way she explains the mutual respect and love for the animals. After reading her mesmerizing article I want to book a flight to Tonga right away and have this experience for myself.  I love the idea of creating memories with family and this is definitely one that will never be forgotten To read more about their wonderful family adventure and for their recommendations on which tours they took, head over to their blog.

DIY Yarn Lamp Shade

Doing this Yarn lampshade has been on one of my to do lists since we moved into our house. I had initially wanted to do a doily lampshade as they went along much better with my vintage theme I have going on in my living room. But I didn’t find enough doilies to do this project and I had plenty of yarn! I have finally come around to doing it. Yay and it was a lot easier than I had expected.

I didn’t want to spend any money of course on expensive big balloons. Initially I was going to use a balloon but I really wanted something bigger and not a oval shape. So I ended up just using those inflatable balls I borrowed from my neighbor’s baby. I know I’m pretty cheap asking to borrow something I can buy for $3 at the most. But anywho they were kind enough to let me borrow this ball and so I got cracking on this project. Light fixtures are one thing I love but feel like I shouldn’t spend too any money on.

I started off by making the modge podge recipe. Yes I made that too. I didn’t buy the expensive kind so I found this recipe here. But I adjusted the recipe and made a perfect one to my liking here. The adjusted recipe was perfect for this project. I used the entire amount. I was pretty happy with the entire result of it. I don’t think it will ever get hot enough to burn the yarn as we hardly use this light. I was worried how I was going to place it on the light fixture but the yarn is easy enough to move around and cut to fit around whatever fixture you have. I started the project at about 8am and once everything was all said and done and drying out in the sun for the whole day I finished the project at about 8pm. If you want to be extra cautious you should leave it for a complete 24 hours. But I was a little bit too excited. haha

  1. Yarn – A full one preferable depending on how big your project is
  2. Modge Podge or Wallpaper glue or my DIY Recipe
  3. Balloon or Ball
  4. Tshirt you don’t mind getting dirty

I know I should be better at cleaning,  cooking, doing the laundry and making sure my house is in tip top condition. But playing, feeding and spending time with my baby and also making sure she doesn’t get a diaper rash or fall down our stairs oh and writing my blog and facebook take priority. (opps)  I know i’m not your perfect housewife and you can count that you will never have the laundry done and ironed and organized for you! But I know one thing is I can’t leave my house a complete dump so I have to do something. In terms of cleaning products I have resulted in trying to go the natural route but it has to be easy. I don’t like having or using harsh chemicals because Miss A is getting into everything and it’s just nicer cleaning and not feeling like you are suffocating yourself right…

So the other day I knew it had been a while since I changed her diaper. I was too lazy to do it at her changing table so I just took it off in the living room and just let her run around for a little bit. Thinking it was cute for her to crawl around without her diaper I let her run free free… free my child!! Then you guessed it while she was running free she let loose and peed on our carpet!!! Who knew a minute of letting her be free would do that? So while trying to put a new diaper on her and also googling some natural way to clean our 7 month old carpet I came across this awesome remedy.

Such an easy all natural way to clean. All i did was mixed water and vinegar together and dropped in some lemon oil and once I tried to get out as much of her pee out of the carpet I sprayed the vinegar solution on top and rubbed it in. My husband told me that in one of his classes in high school he learnt how to breathe deeply as a technique for relaxation which I thought was an odd thing to learn in school.
